4/8/10—received a message on Classmates from a former Teacher. Remember Miss Shih? She writes: “Hi!  I have been haunting the Quincy {Mass.] High School Class of 1960 Classmates Web site re: my upcoming 50th high school reunion. Another person who is a former teacher mentioned he was able to find former students this way. I taught English at Walpole High School (name was then Heather Banks Shih)  from 1967-1971. I must have had some of your class in senior English classes. I also have some year books I would love to pass on to the appropriate folks as I am downsizing. Hope to move from Maryland where I have lived since 1971 to Virginia to be closer to my son who is now a policeman in Virginia Beach.  It's a small, small world, as I did meet some former students in the DC area in the first few years.

Good luck with planning...I'm president of my Oberlin College class...reunions are a lot of work!

7/21/09—Kristie (Salonen) Cauldwell - Hi All, there is good news to report!  Kristi went for her follow up appointment with the doctor this morning to discuss her most recent mammogram.  She was examined and got a clean bill of health.  She is taking hormone therapy orally for 5 years as the last step of her treatment plan.  She will be going for follow up appointments as recommended.  So we have a great reason to celebrate!  Thank you all for your prayers and support during this last year.  I know all of you played a part in keeping Kristi moving forward towards this healthy news!!

I am very proud of him! He has been a teacher of emotionally disturbed teenagers for the last three years at the high school he attended and in the same district I work in. My daughter in law, Amy, David's wife also graduated with an Elementary Ed. degree and will teach in the fall. Thanks for keeping up the web page. I look forward to the next reunion as I should be retired by then! I plan to work two more years then will have 30 in. Can you believe we are actually talking about retirement?!”

4/20/09—Kristie (Salonen) Cauldwell provides us with an update on her situation: “Tomorrow I will return to work on a full-time basis. The Family Medical Leave Act (which I went out on in October) will expire this month. Chemo treatments will continue once a week every Thursday so I will take all day Thursday off as a "vacation day."
If treatments go as planned; my final Chemo should be on June 4th... Feeling pretty well; Zofran (anti-nausea) is a wonder drug for sure!  1-3 days following treatment are "flu-like" symptoms; nothing too much to handle; usually take to my bed to rest.

4/17/09—Dottie (Normoyle) D’Acri states: “I actually stumbled across the Rebel 71 website by accident and saw the pictures from the reunion. I also found my name on the "missing" list. Of course after that, I had to drag out the old yearbook and take trip back (way too many years to even think about!). Some people I recognized immediately, others I needed a little help with. Needless to say I haven't been to a reunion yet, but I'm kind of wishing I had.
Anyway, tucked away in the old Rebel yearbook I found something that goes back a bit further than 1971. I've attached it to this e-mail since it looks like you're the keeper of the memories and thought that maybe some of the rest of the class would get a kick out of it. It's also a bit of a brain teaser - Mrs. Sullivan's first grade class from Bird School (now Condos?) from 1960. There are no names under the pictures and while I think I can put names with most of them, there are some I'm not sure of. Going through the reunion pictures, I think there are at least five or six that were at the reunion.
Just for fun, though, I've put names with those I can remember - maybe someone else can fill in the rest! [you can find the picture HERE]

2/7/09—Judy Harol poses the following question— “Frank Bocock had a cousin living with his family who is Guatemalan. She came to school with us in the ninth grade I think. Her name is Ana Raquel Diaz. Does anyone else remember her?”

2/7/09—from Scott Bushway— “Kristi - wishing you well.
As most of you probably know, I didn't venture far from Walpole.  I am in my 32nd year on the police department, currently serving as deputy chief of police.  After struggling through high school, I went to earn a masters degree in criminal justice.  I am an adjunct instructor of criminal justice classes at MassBay Community College in Wellesley and a freelance contributor to a national law enforcement publication.  I am married to a local attorney and we have two sons, ages 9 and 15 (yes, first and only marriage - got a late start in the kid department).  We recently relocated to cape cod and commute to Walpole until retirement.
Thanks to Jeff for putting this web site together and keeping it updated.
Best to all.
Scott Bushway”

2/6/09—from Dan Wells— “I am living in Jaco, Costa Rica and having a great time in the warm weather. I wish I paid more attention to our Spanish teacher, I am having problems talking Spanish, but everything else is great. If you know anyone going to Jaco, Costa Rica please have them look for me at Sunrise Restaurant, American breakfast or email me at danwells27@yahoo.com.”

1/1/09—from Kristi (Salonen) Cauldwell— “On July 16, 2008 I received a diagnosis of Stage I Invasive Breast Cancer. I underwent Chemotherapy; a Mastectomy; and I am still in the healing process from surgery due to a blood clot delaying the healing.... I will find out on January 19, 2009 from my Oncologist about further Chemotherapy treatment. She had suggested I undergo 12 weeks of Chemo; once a week; as the cancer has advanced to Stage II. (lymph node involvement)  "aggressive cancer; so plan of attack will be aggressive" were her words to me.  Wishing ALL a Happy New Year.......health IS everything......

12/28/08—from Nancy (Johnson) Young— “Greetings to the class of 71.  It looks like you had a great 35th reunion two years ago. I was in SC and was unable to attend.  Life takes some funny turns. Jon and my new motto is "life is what happens after you make plans". After building our home down there in Seneca, SC and living in it for about 3 weeks, Jon and I made the difficult decision to return to Maine for a few years.  We were fortunate to be welcomed back by each of our previous employers...me as a Math teacher at Poland Regional High School and Jon as an Accounting professor at Central Maine Community College.  We "signed on" for two more years which will end in 09.  So we are at another crossroads...do we return to our vacant home in SC next summer or give Maine another year??? We love SC and the friends we have made there...and if the jobs for us work out we will be there in a flash!!!   I'll try to keep y'all posted. We just enjoyed a wonderful Christmas holiday with our two daughters. Kristen is now living in South Hero, VT and is working at UVM as well as teaching jazzercise.  Laurie ended up spending last year in China teaching English at a private high school and traveling through Tibet, Laos, Thailand, and lots of beautiful places in China with her boyfriend.  Thankfully they avoided the earthquake! She is now a few months into her new job as an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Seattle, WA.”
12/20/08—from Janet (Kelly) Ladendorf— “I just finished reviewing all the pictures and boy oh boy time has passed.  I had to take second looks on some I hardly recognized.  Just a little information, I am married, I have 4 children, 5 grandchildren.  I retired from government after 29 years of service and it will be 2 years this coming January 2009.  I have a beautiful home in Lakeland, Florida.  I am very grateful for every one and thing I have in my life and always have fond memories of our years and friends at Walpole High School.  I want to wish you and your family along with our fellow classmates and their families a very happy holiday and a very safe and happy New Year.  Love to everyone Janet”

12/19/08— “hello. It is Randy Bourne.  I recently found the Walpole Rebels web page for the class of 1971.  Nice job on the whole layout.  Reading down the list of addresses was quite compelling.  As I said each name in my head, I could see each person, some at ballroom dancing on Friday evenings, albeit way back when we were all teenagers!

I now live in Provincetown MA and have been here for eight years.  I work seasonally at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum and at an antiques and jewelry store on Commercial street here.  In addition, I flit around town gardening for a few other people.  I myself have a large vegetable and flower garden in the side yard of an historic house in which I reside.

Life has been good to me regardless of the twists and turns and curves it throws at you.  I will not recap the last nearly 20 years of it for you though; I was at our twentieth reunion.  Perhaps I will make it to the fortieth if you can place me on your mailing list.

What a mind bender.  Thanks for your continued efforts to keep us Rebels up-to-date.”

5/31/08— Jane (Driscoll) Rainsford provided an update to the Souvenir Booklet.

11/21/06— “Hello, Frank Bocock checking in from Guatemala. Self employed growing ornamental plants for export and local sales, doing OK. Great weather most of the time, good family and health no complaints. All this time I did not know I was missing. Was looking at pictures of the reunion but  I did not recognize anyone, sorry...  I´m clearly the one with the grayest hair.”
